Khoren and Shooshanig Avedisian School and Community Center

Khoren and Shooshanig Avedisian School (AHS) is an educational institution that provides outstanding K-12 holistic, tuition-free education in a modern, environmentally friendly building.

AHS’s state-of-the-art facilities empower the low-income community of southwest Yerevan district in Malatia-Sebastia.

AHS was established in 1998 by the Armenian Missionary Association of America (AMAA) thanks to the vision and generosity of its benefactors, Edward and Pamela Avedisian.

The greatest asset of the school is its motivated, mission-driven teachers, whose commitment to their students and enthusiasm for teaching fuels a dynamic classroom environment. They are selected based on a rigorous process of tests and interviews. The 35 teachers are trained and motivated to give their best to the students, planting in them a growing passion for learning and knowledge. At Avedisian School, teachers also have the freedom and support to be creative and innovative in their methodologies, further fostering independent thinking in their students.

The school considers character development and life skills crucial for academic success. The students learn and grow in an atmosphere characterized by love, respect, service, integrity and diligence.

Khoren and Shooshanig Avedisian School has received many prizes and awards from various institutions, including the Ministry of Education and Science in Armenia.

Construction of the of the new “Green” school building was completed in August 2014, enabling the students to start the new academic year in this spacious new facility that provides 10,000 square meters of classrooms, two indoor gyms, labs, and office space.

The entire building is an environmental laboratory featuring solar panels, recycled rainwater, green roofs and more.

The students’ learning experience is further enhanced thanks to state-of-the art teaching tools such as computers, robotics labs, language labs, fully equipped natural sciences labs, electronic boards and more.

The bright and spacious library is a special place where students and teachers can study and spend their extra-class time, look through and borrow books and media periodicals.

The school cooperates with various NGOs, educational and Government institutions, such as Yerevan State University, American University of Armenia, UNDP, US Peace Corps, Armenia Tree Project, Jinishian Memorial Foundation, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.
