In 1989, directly after the devastating 1988 Spitak earthquake, a group of volunteers established the “Armenian Children’s Milk Fund” (ACMF) in Boston. The fund’s mission is to fill one specific, vital nutritional need: to provide baby formula to infants in Armenia and Artsakh. Since 1989, the infant nutritional program has given thousands of children a healthy start in life. ACMF achievements were made possible thanks to the hard work and fundraising campaigns run by dozens of volunteers.
The project is implemented in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Stepanavan, Goris and in Artsakh, and benefits 440 families every month. The beneficiaries are children who have special instructions from the doctor, may have food allergies (especially to dairy products), or have digestive disorders that may necessitate supplemental nutrition. In such cases it is often advised to use “Similac” food.
The “Armenian Children’s Milk Fund” is kindly supported by all stakeholders, and it encourages breastfeeding; artificial food is recommended only when prescribed by the doctor.
