The medical services division of the Armenian Missionary Association of America has its own place among various charitable programs in Armenia. The AMAA has two medical centers in Armenia — Yerevan and Spitak.
September 4, 1998 is a memorable date for the AMAA Armenia branch. It is the date when the mobile clinic that had been located in the AMAA office since 1991 was replaced by a newly built AMAA Armenia clinic. Construction of the clinic was able to be completed because of the direct sponsorship of Nerses and Arpine Aynilian (New Jersey, USA). This program was supported by the British “Christian Aid” organization through the WCC Round Table.
AMAA Armenia receives and distributes medical equipment to hospitals and other medical institutions.
The AMAA Clinic in Yerevan provides the following services:
- ultrasound diagnosis
- dental service
- child nutrition program
- pediatric
- pharmacy services
- family doctor services
The Clinic in Spitak was opened in 2001, again due to joint efforts of AMAA Armenia, the French “Hope for Armenia” organization, the Armenian Doctors’ Union of France (UMAF), and the Municipality of Spitak. The Spitak dispensary provides:
- dental service
- pediatric service
- medicine distribution
In general, socially disadvantaged people, sponsored families and children, and church members are provided free treatment. If necessary, medicine is also distributed.
For years, many diasporan doctors have visited Armenia and have cooperated with AMAA Armenia dispensary doctors, putting their professional skills into service for the patients. The doctors visiting Armenia are mainly from the US, France, Syria and Italy.
