AMAA “Shogh” Community-Based Day Centers

Our Mission

The mission of the AMAA “Shogh” Day Centers is to help vulnerable children improve academically, gain life skills, enjoy education and advance in their everyday life.

Since the 1988 earthquake in Armenia, the country has suffered wars, embargos, and numerous other setbacks hindering recovery. Consequently, many Armenians find themselves trapped in an inescapable cycle of abject poverty.

The best gift one can give a child is a holistic education, as a well-rounded education provides young people with the tools to grow into proactive citizens. This is the only course by which a child can break the cycle of poverty. AMAA seeks to raise children who will mature into productive members of society, nurturing and giving back to future generations that they may one day prosper in a community currently gripped in severe destitution.

The Educational Day Centers (Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Stepanavan, Shushi [Stepanakert] and Askeran) aim to support children who grow in socially neglected families. The project’s main objective is to help children overcome educational difficulties, grow personally, avoid antisocial behavior and become a part of an educated and healthy society. Highly qualified and experienced professionals such as tutors, social workers and psychologists provide social, educational, psychological, and entertainment services to nearly 270 school-age children.

The Centers and Community

The centers operate in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Issues of RA and the local self-government bodies.

The Day Centers also provide children’s safety during parents’ working hours that prevents children’s involvement in risky situations, which may be associated with the street accidents or violence by strangers.

The existence of the Centers also creates a positive cultural and educational environment and has a critical impact on communities where they are located.
